Zoho CRM alternative

CubeCRM compared with Zoho CRM

Zoho offers a great deal for the money. Configuring all of it is the work.

What Zoho CRM actually is

Zoho CRM is sold in several per-user editions, with a free edition for very small teams, and sits within a large family of Zoho applications covering finance, support, marketing, projects and more - available individually or bundled.

It is highly configurable, with custom modules, workflow automation and scripting, and has a large base of users and partners worldwide. For a business that wants one vendor for many applications and is comfortable configuring them, it is very good value. The businesses that talk to us about it usually found the breadth came with a lot of setup, and wanted something more focused with UK support.

Credit where it is due

What Zoho CRM does well

These are the real reasons it has the customers it has. If two or more of them describe something you need, weight them heavily.

  • Remarkable breadth for the price - CRM plus dozens of other business applications from one vendor.

  • Deep configurability, including custom modules, workflows and scripting.

  • Editions to suit very small teams through to large ones, including a free edition.

  • A large worldwide user base and partner network.

Side by side

The differences that actually change the decision

Not a feature checklist. These are the structural differences - licensing, scope, who implements it - that determine whether a system fits, and they are the ones nobody tells you until month four.

Worth checking

Questions to put to them before you sign

None of these are faults. They are design decisions with consequences, and every one of them is answerable - so ask.

  • Editions shape capability

Automation, customisation and some integrations vary by edition. Check which edition covers what you need now and later.

  • Breadth needs configuration

The more Zoho applications you use, the more there is to configure and maintain. Decide who will own it.

  • Support model

Support levels vary by edition and plan. If you want UK-based, named support, ask what is available and whether it is through Zoho or a partner.

  • Data centre location

Zoho operates data centres in several regions. Confirm which applies to your account if data location matters to you.

When Zoho CRM is the better choice

If you want one vendor for CRM, accounting, helpdesk, projects and more, and you are comfortable configuring and maintaining those applications yourselves, Zoho is very likely the better value. It is also a good choice if your team already knows the Zoho ecosystem.

If you do move

What leaving Zoho CRM actually involves

  1. 1

Check what else runs on Zoho

If Zoho Books, Desk or other Zoho apps are connected to the CRM, plan what happens to each before moving.

  2. 2

    Export modules and fields

Standard and custom modules can be exported and mapped to CubeCRM records and custom fields.

  3. 3

    Rebuild only what is used

Workflows and scripts are reviewed and rebuilt where they are still needed, often as simpler rules.
